The American Conservative Party recommendation list for the 2009 Texas constitutional amendment ballot is out!   There are eleven amendments on a variety of important subjects, such as eminent domain, sneaky government seizures, stealth entrenchment of officeholders, and fairness in property taxation.   Please see the forum post for both a brief summary and in-depth examination.  You can download a one page summary here.

Resolution for State Sovereignty Print E-mail

Please take the time to call Rick Perry’s Citizen Opinion Line @ (800) 252-9600(press option 2 to talk to a live administrative aide rather than leaving a voice recording) He announced today that he’s supporting HCR 50, a “state sovereignty” resolution. HCR 50 essentially says to Uncle Sam, “Please remember that the Constitution has a ninth and tenth amendment."

Berman introduced his own bill HCR 76 because HCR 50 was toothless is a little better. It tells Uncle Sam, “Hey buddy. Don’t mess with us. You pass a bill that infringes on our sovereignty or otherwise violates key constitutional principles/values, and we will invoke our sovereign state’s right to nullify any such law. And don’t try to push us or we’ll carry this further.”

Take your pick of resolutions: HCR 50 or HCR 76.  Either way, they’re both nothing more than resolutions and still require our Texas legislators to ACT on the promise of the resolution.  At least take the time to call Perry’s office—this is a lot better than just waving signs at a Republican-sponsored ‘Tea Party.’

Berman has introduced his own bill, HCR 76, because HCR 50 was toothless. Compare the wording of the two resolutions for yourself:
