American Conservative Party: ‘Now What?-the ACP in 2011?

November 3rd, 2010 · 1 Comment

Last night was a fantastic night for America.

Record turnouts all over the country…a decided swing from the Progressive Democrats in the direction of the (mostly) Progressive Republicans.

There were a few that made it in, though, that might not play ball…Rand Paul from Kentucky, just might not work so well with the Big Government ruling class, and Jim Demint has proven he is willing to buck the status quo. In the House, some newcomer Republicans might start to take a leadership role…like Alan West from down in Florida who will hopefully be as fiery on the House floor as he was in the campaign.

Time will tell. However, there’s an impossible-to-overlook, overwhelming chance that the Republicans will blow it this time as they have the last three, four, five times that they’ve sworn off Big Government profligacy and promised us Freedom. If they overcome those odds and the GOP becomes the party of limited Government for more than 45 minutes…for the first time in History…then the ACP will be eternally grateful.

But we’re NOT GOING TO COUNT ON IT!

All over the country, folks are poring over the numbers, talking about what we should do and what we should not for 2012. There are a lot of decisions to make, and you have a chance to be part of those decisions.

But now is our time to build. If the Republicans screw it up in Washington, D.C., voters need a place to go to that stands for a clear, concise set of Conservative Principles, and that refuses to play the Party-and-Power over ideas game. Three things to keep in mind:

1) The way we are going to have to take back our Country is by starting to look at our local Governments…from the Boards and Commissions to the State Houses to the Governors’ mansion…and find the areas where we can make the most difference. Some of these races are non-partisan, some positions are appointed…so the Oligopoly just doesn’t matter. The extra 8 or 9 Republican Governors and about as many Republican State Houses might keep Democrats from gerrymandering THEM out of existence…but there will STILL be lots of gerrymandering, so very little will change. We need principled people who can run…and communicate…and lead…based on principles of limited government.

2) It starts with you…you could be the only member in your county right now…or you might be one of a dozen, and you just haven’t met anyone. No way to know until you engage. Our leadership comes from the membership; it has to be that way, or the talk about grassroots and subsidiarity is just lip-service.

3) Most of all, we must be patient. It has taken us about 100 years to get this bad off…it’ll take at least 20 to 30 to get it back where it needs to be. And we’re going to do that by sticking to our principles, and fighting the right fights and gaining credibility through ideas.

If you’re ready to get started, then go to our Volunteer Page.

…and pick out the areas where you feel you can be the most helpful. Where we need the most help is Local Activism:

The best way to have a ground up organization is to build local chapters. If you believe in our principles and want to be a leader, then now is the time. Our conference in September and last night’s election have confirmed one very important thing: we’re doing the right thing…we’re on the right track…

    This is an awesome letter.

All of the parties should probably put something like this out:

    1. This is what we say the election means.

    2. This is why it has put us in a good position.

    3. This is what we can do next.

    4. Here is how you can help.

I love seeing electoral activists do things correctly.

    ;)

Georgia Conservative Party testing Floyd waters to see if group's tightly focused, states-friendly agenda has staying power here

A new political party is emerging locally that is attracting Republicans, Libertarians and Democrats alike. The newly registered Georgia Conservative Party (GCP) is developing a grass roots network they hope has “staying power.”

Kirk Spears“The GCP is not a split from the Republican Party,” says Kirk Spears, right, a member of the GCP Board of Directors. “While our party does attract some disaffected Republicans, we are also attracting Libertarians, conservative-leaning Independents and ‘blue-dog’ Democrats. We are the new home for many conservatives who are looking for a fresh way to have a positive impact on their local, state and federal government.”

The GCP is a state affiliate of the national American Conservative Party. The GCP was started last year but just became a registered political party of the state of Georgia a few weeks ago. The GCP is now working to start local chapters, including one in Floyd County.

“The board has developed the state party’s by-laws and platform,” Spears says. “Now, we are beginning to identify people who want to form GCP chapters in their respective counties and help them get up and running. I am leading the effort to begin a chapter here in Floyd County.”

acp-dont-tread2.jpg
The drawing card for the group is its underlying platform goal of a limited role of government. With today’s government spending more taxpayer dollars, becoming bigger and seeking more control of services, party leaders are working to rally a lot of supporters.

“The American Conservative Party has its own national platform focusing on a limited number of issues such as national defense and immigration,” he says. “The platform states that the Constitution reserves responsibility for most issues with states, and therefore, leaves each state affiliate party to create its own platform.”

The GCP is now working to finalize its platform. It will focus on issues specific to Georgia such as education, taxes and water concerns.

“The underlying basis for both platforms is the principles central to our nation’s founding documents…God-given personal liberty, responsibility and the government’s limited role in protecting those freedoms.

“Probably the major difference from the Republican Party is the emphasis on states making their own decisions,” he says. “We feel that many issues that the Republicans have traditionally addressed on a national level are better left to individual states to decide for themselves.”

The party has a very focused platform.

“Some may be surprised by the limited scope of the platforms,” Spears says. “That is because we see a very limited role for government, and instead, place much more confidence in the freedom of individuals and markets to make their own choices.”

As a third party, the GCP is trying to avoid the same mistakes other parties have made leading to their collapse.

“One of the reasons third parties have traditionally struggled is that they have been built around a single issue or individual,” he says. “Once that issue resolves or the individual goes away, the party collapses. The approach of our national and state party is pretty much the opposite of that. We don’t believe the federal government holds many answers, so we aren’t looking to make an immediate impact on the national level.

“Instead, we want to build a party with staying power. We want to develop a grass roots infrastructure at the county and state level. Then, we want to begin to field and support conservative candidates at the local and state levels where we can make an impact on the lives of the people we live and work with.”

The GCP already has formed local chapters in Carroll and Muscogee counties. An informational meeting for those interested in forming a chapter in Floyd County will be held on March 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“We are looking for individuals who embrace what we stand for and want to become active in building the party in their community,” Spears says. “This will be a chance for those who are interested to learn more about the state and national party and find out how they can become more involved."

The time and place for the event will be announced soon. For more, e-mail Spears at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Breaking News. Scazzafava suspends campaign (UPDATED). Print E-mail
Written by ACP
Saturday, 31 October 2009 13:00

UPDATE:  Scozzafava removes all doubt as to her lack of class and political leanings by endorsing Democratic candidate Owens in the NY23 race. The GOP is trying to do an about face to claim they always loved Doug Hoffman, and scrub a carton of eggs off their collective faces.  It's always a good day to be Conservative, but some are spectacularly better than others!

The American Conservative Party -- Fighting the two-party system one county at a time.

First, there has been a little confusion about our relationship with the NY-23rd race (we are not affiliated with the Conservative Party of New York State--see our press release just below this article on our front page), but we do support the candidacy of Doug Hoffman, and are excited about possibly having a Conservative outside of the GOP to caucus with the Republican Party in Washington DC.  Just to let you know that Third Parties can make a difference, here is the FULL STORY on Scazzafava's decision to suspend her campain.  Excerpt:

Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents -- Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.

The decision to suspend her campaign is a boost for Hoffman, who already had the support of 50 percent of GOP voters, according to a newly-released Siena poll, and is now well-positioned to win over the 25 percent of Republicans who had been sticking with Scozzafava.

Scozzafava has “probably made her last campaign appearance between now and Election Day,” spokesman Matt Burns told POLITICO. “She’s releasing her support to the two other candidates."

"I had a discussion with her last night, and we made the decision after I spoke with her. We talked about it, what this came down to was spending. It came down to the ability to defend herself from the get-go. And that’s the reality. She was unable to define herself where the people didn’t know her."

The ACP has experienced a lot of activity over the last two weeks.  Never before have we seen more members more excited about the prospect of breaking the stranglehold of the Two-Party nonsense we have going on in our country.

Please get involved wherever you are by going to our Volunteer Page.  It might take a couple of weeks to get in touch with you, but we will...and of course donations are always appreciated.  Also let us know what your thoughts are by visiting our FORUMS.  Our party is being built not by Inside the Beltway Consultants, but by the ideas of normal citizens wanting to make a difference.

Movement First, Party Second.

PRESS RELEASE--ACP Supports Hoffman in NY-23 Print E-mail
Written by ACP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

T
he American Conservative Party Supports Doug Hoffman as Candidate for the US House of Representatives from New York's 23rd District.

“We believe that Doug Hoffman, not Dede Scozzafava, should represent the citizens of NY23 in the House of Representatives.  Dede is an embarrassing, self-serving, union-supporting liberal who has called the police on reporters, threatened to jump to the Democratic Party, and refused to accept invitations to an open debate. She is of questionable fitness to hold a seat in the House of Representatives, and definitely unfit to hold the line against government growth, spending, and abuse of power.” said Charles Domino, Secretary of the American Conservative Party.

Both parties seek to elect conservatives to office, but Doug Hoffman is a candidate for the Conservative Party of New York State (CPNYS), NOT the American Conservative Party (ACP), which is a separate entity.  "We're not one and the same organization. There is no official affiliation between the ACP, formed in 2008 and the Conservative Party of New York State, founded in 1962," said Mr. Domino.

ACP Chairman William (Butch) Porter said “ The American Conservative Party supports Mr. Hoffman's campaign for the seat in the house from NY23.” He further urged Ms Scozzafava, who trails Hoffman by 12 percentage points in the latest Club for Growth poll, to drop out and throw her support to Hoffman. “This is a 'Special Election' after all. The seat will be up for reelection in 2010. It does not mean as much as a regular election with a primary election precursor.”

So far, the ACP has only announced one "official" candidate for Congress, Eugene Moon, in the Georgia 9th district.  His website can be found at http://www.eugenemoonforcongress.org/. The American Conservative Party's website is at http://www.amconparty.org

Doug Hoffman's campaign can be contacted at this web site: http://doughoffmanforcongress.com/ and the Conservative Party of New York State can be found on the web here: http://www.cpnys.org/
